Artists of all varieties that I know and work with.

High Rising :: Cameron Elise Creates Visuals For ‘East Side’

Singer/songwriter Cameron Elise has now joined the list of creators that have taken the task of creating a music video into their own hands.  After the recent acquisition of a camera and nothing but inspiration to guide her, Elise was able to create a memorable and striking video for East Side, capturing several slice of life moments to punctuate her musical tales of people chasing their dreams.  The mostly black and white, highly stylized visuals work well, with the occasional peppered in use of a mirror split screen and rain effects thrown in for good measure.  Definitely impressive for a first time effort, and here’s to hoping that it won’t be the last.

Mellow Hype :: Poolboi Blu Steps Up To The Director’s Chair For ‘Lounge’ Video

When it comes to being an independent musician/artist, you enjoy collaborative efforts, but you quickly learn that the key to putting out songs/videos at a rate that works for you is taking over in all capacities.  poolboi blu has had the beats and rhymes on lock for a minute, but 2019 is showing that he has a visual side as well.  His first music video from ANTSY is the self-shot and edited jam that is lounge, and it features poolboi in elements that he is quite familiar with… home, Bad Ingredients Records, the Yellow Store, and even in the proximity of a pool.  As much as I like working with poolboi on the video tip, if this is an indication of what he can do with no experience, I’m all for seeing what his visual eye develops into.  Give this one a like and a share, and be sure to leave a comment as well.

Quick Hit :: Kenny Casanova Self-Produces A Banger With ‘WE$ $NIPES’

artworks-000508401618-kwt1oj-t500x500

Writing rhymes is an incredibly dedicated discipline already, but for a certain breed of lyricists, one of two things inevitably happens… they either spend enough time around producers that they become inspired to produce themselves, or they out-write the beats that are available and become forced to learn how to produce in order to keep the song output going.  I’m not sure which path Kenny Casanova chose… he may not even adhere to one of those paths… honestly, it doesn’t even matter, because WE$ $NIPES goes hard regardless.  The airy, 808-grounded beat has an upbeat energy to it, and Kenny Casanova matches that energy with his rhyme patterns, delivery and bars to a tee.  I’m looking forward to the day when Casanova starts moving in multiple verse tracks, or possibly beat switches, but whatever he chooses to continue to do, I’m down for it.

Scenic Route :: Mirage The Gr8 Drops Video For ‘Rollin’

Mirage the GR8 has been focused on dropping groups of videos for his musical releases over the last couple of years, and with each coordinated effort, the quality of the work seems to grow.  With RollinMirage reached out to some of his Dallas people to help capture images, and he reached out to yours truly for the edit.  The result, in my opinion, is quite impressive, and the type of quality that all involved can stand behind and be proud of.  Check it out for yourself, leave a like and a comment if you dig it, and share it with others so every can be blessed by the dopeness.

Lonely Crowd :: BluMoon Releases ‘Depressed Again’ Video

There is something ingrained in the creative spirit that makes it difficult for us to connect on any level other than deeply.  As a result, despite some of us being thrust into the public sphere, there is a loneliness that hangs around and influences mood and emotions.  With the help of director Bita Ghassemi, BluMoon is able to visually capture that feeling with their music video for Depressed Again, one of the many incredible songs on their latest release Slow Burn.  Check out the video, give it a like and a share, and leave a comment to show your support!

Taking Off :: RED COMET Drops ‘I LOVE YOU’ Everywhere

After a string of successful singles and videos, Red Comet is officially poised to make a mark for himself in terms of the Central Texas music scene, and perhaps even further.  His style is a unique mixture of hip-hop, electronic and counter-culture influences, all brought together by an awareness of what’s going on in the world at large rather than what’s happening stateside.  I LOVE YOURed Comet‘s debut release, encompasses all of this and more, and it is available on all streaming services at this time.  Red Comet definitely has the potential to make some major noise, so get in on the ground floor while the getting is good!

Chasing Dreams :: ‘4 Dayz’ By Gost Now Streaming

artworks-000506389287-m1tbf0-t500x500

When fans of my music tell me they like or appreciate it, I always thank them, but I’m always sure to let them know how much it really means for me, as the process of creation is very therapeutic to me.  While not that lofty a concept to grasp, I often wonder if people truly understand what I mean.  After hearing 4 Dayz by the homie Gost, I can take solace in knowing that at least one person on this Earth knows exactly what I’m talking about.  The track is more like a short film than a song, taking listeners through the intensity that is a fixation with an idea that may be the key to fueling a bigger dream.  Gost has always been good with the bars, but 4 Dayz is a clear sign that the songwriting prowess is growing and taking a key role in his identity… I’m all for it.

Flame Throwers :: SymmaTree And Rupert The Duke Connect For ‘Strike The Match’

SymmaTree is the embodiment of the hard work it takes to grow as an artist.  Not only is he constantly writing and looking for opportunities to work with others, the time he spends traveling to play shows affords him the chance to expand his circle of collaborators.  During an Amarillo stop, SymmaTree had the pleasure of meeting Rupert the Duke, and a spark (pun intended) was created that led to the eventual creation of Strike the Match, an EP focusing on the passion and drive it takes to better yourself, your creations and your position in life.  The production matches the intensity of SymmaTree‘s instantly recognizable voice, and guest appearances from AK1Joy and CA the Commoner provide the right balance of vocal variety.  Hopefully, the duo can follow up one day with a full length, but until then, be sure to share this one around, and cop it if you have a few bucks.

Steel Reserved :: WayLodge Releases Video For ‘Longing’

Over the past couple of years that I’ve gotten to know WayLodge, the biggest surprise was finding out that he was a musician, as most of our conversations tended to center around movies.  His musical discipline, much to my pleasure, falls into the realm of what some would consider lo-fi, although his approach falls into the realm of ’emotionally experimental’, if I had to hang a name on it.  Longing is a solid example of what WayLodge brings to the table, as the drone-like spine of the track allows a roadmap for lighter textures that grow dynamically.  The accompanying video supports the song well, with the hypnotic initial images allowing a more vicious cycle to replace them while simultaneously reinforcing the original images.  I’m definitely looking forward to a WayLodge project, and I am curious to see where his growing ventures take him.

High Score :: Poolboi Blu Drops Another Remix Banger With ‘Namco’

a0780378121_10

As much as I enjoy poolboi blu‘s original music (and am hoping to wrap up a small project he and I have in the works), I’m totally on board for the remixes that he does.  His latest, Namco, is a flip of a track by GunnaTravis Scott and Metro Boomin’, and as per usual, poolboi manages to make it unique without sacrificing any of the original track’s quality.  This one is a name your price download, so there’s no reason to not put it in your library, and if you can, dropping a buck or two isn’t a bad idea.
