Halloween Havoc :: Bitforce And Joshua Lopez Combine Forces For ‘Descendants Of Belmont’

With the expansive nature of video games, taken in part with the insane skill level of Bitforce, you can pretty much guarantee that these guys have a song that can cover most any holiday or occasion.  For Halloween, the guys went the extra mile by teaming up with guest guitarist Joshua Lopez of Sonic Boom for Descendants of Belmont, a medley of songs from the canon of Castlevania games.  In fact, the guys took that extra mile and went an additional extra mile on top of that by dropping a music video, just in time for all you spooky boys and girls to enjoy during the fright night!

Getting a double-down like this is like finding that house that gives out full size candy bars, or finding a group of unsuspecting kids to shoot roman candles at without fear of getting caught… it’s like the best of both worlds.  Grab the track if you can, and definitely like, comment on and share the video, and most importantly, be safe out there this Halloween night!

Tromatic Therapy :: MC Homeless Joins Protextor For Latest Episode Of ‘Rappers Playing Games (RPG)’

I’ve been wondering for a couple of weeks who would be the next guest on Rappers Playing Games (RPG), a piece of Baby Lion programming that has grown on me quickly and deeply.  It was a refreshing surprise to see MC Homeless as the latest guest, because I know how deep his love for various pop culture realms runs.  For his episode, he and Protextor sat down over a game of Toxic Crusaders on the Sega Genesis and discussed a wide variety of topics, including horror-core rap, horror movies from around the world that both find influential, their mutual love for Troma films, collaborations with Fake Four artist Moodie Black, and much more.  Not only is MC Homeless a solid interview, dude handled his business on the gaming front as well.  That Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice shirt is a nice touch as well.  Leave a like, a comment, subscribe, and don’t forget to share this one around!

Doubling Down :: MANNERS Celebrates Second Release Day By Dropping Two Projects

After releasing a project earlier this year, then dealing with a band member relocation that probably would have disbanded most groups, it’s good to know that MANNERS is still alive and kicking.  To celebrate that fact, the group put out a planned release in the form of Pulp, a six song collection (five of which are seeing an official release for the first time) that showcases their continued tradition of writing intriguing, biting and honest love/break-up songs in the vein of PJ Harvey or Cat Power‘s older material.  Then, as if a new album wasn’t enough, the group released a live show at Beerland that they themselves did not know was being recorded at the time.  Thanks to Maximiamo Deems, the group was handed a fully recorded and mixed live project that not only sounds great, but it gives you a glimpse into how funny the between-song banter of MANNERS can be.  If you’re a fan of the group, definitely spread the word around about these releases.

Traveling Band :: PNTHN Films ‘PUBLIC ENEMY’ Video During A3C Conference

About a year ago, many of us were talking about the buzz that PNTHN had building, and how that momentum was bound to take them places.  Enter the fall season, and we find the crew returning from Atlanta, where they not only attended and performed at the A3C hip-hop conference, but somehow found the time to film a video for PUBLIC ENEMY off of their latest release, RICO.  The video features bars from almost every member of the crew, it exhibits their playful nature (as they not only seemingly have fun as a crew, but enjoy one another’s time on a personal level as well), and displays a few psychedelic touches courtesy of some chroma-key work.  The work done by Chris Henriques and Kelly Hinnen, especially for something probably done on the fly and in the spare time found during a busy conference, is strong, and fits squarely into the PNTHN aesthetic.   Keep spreading that love for the crew, like and share the video, and leave a comment so they know we’re out here supporting.

Chosen Ones :: Apek Bends Minds With ‘The Village’

My man APEK recently hit me up with a track he collaborated on with producer Ruler Why that he thought I might feel.  Hitting play on The Village and the subsequent listen definitely had an impact on me… APEK hits the nail on the head about more than a few aspects of commitment to the hip-hop culture on a creator level that I directly relate to.  The way that it immediately puts you in outcast status in both musical and everyday social circles… the therapeutic aspect to writing that most do not see when they pass of your work as simply ‘a song’… the personal drive that keeps you pushing your own limits and boundaries, even when success has been achieved… the absurd, but very real, desire for tangible objects to validate your hard work, such as chains and clothes… the way that some people are just waiting for a chance to crucify you and make you irrelevant.  APEK has always been an MC that puts deep thought into his output, and The Village not only continues that trend, but shows positive growth in terms of writing songs that can be felt on a deeper level.  I anticipate this one (hopefully) getting some 2018 props when people start mentioning highlights of the year.

When Jonny from Apache Tomcat hit me up a while ago (and about a completely different project, whom I will feature in the future) and told me about the new lo-fi project he was in, I was in the stretch of a very busy and creative month.  I had every intention of listening, but time was a limited commodity.  When I finally did get a chance to sit down and listen to Manifest Destiny’s Child Soldier Boy George Harrison Ford Focus, I was floored, and immediately kicking myself for taking so long to get around to check out the project.  From the jump, this project gave me the same feelings that projects by Tim Kerr, Dirty Beaches, The Butthole Surfers and bands of that ilk do… grungy sounds, chameleon-like vocals that are playful and intriguing, and an immediacy that other music lacks these days were all elements that spoke to me.  This one is definitely worth checking out and downloading, as well as telling a friend to do the same.

Vibey Season :: BORn.88 Drops ‘Late Bloomer’

When the homie Click-Clack throws out a recommendation, I listen.  Austin has such a deep well of talented creators, and it’s hard to keep track of all of them, so you’ve gotta use the names you trust as a gateway source for more quality material.  With one listen of BORn.88‘s understated banger Late Bloomer, it’s easy to see why Click-Clack sings his praises.  BORn.88 uses familiar sounds for his production, but the way he lets his tracks breathe is very refreshing.  It also provides the perfect foundation for reflective lyrics infused with just the right amount of auto-tune to sound more like an instrument than a performer looking for clout via his on-record performance.  This one is definitely going into the personal rotation, and some of these tracks may find their way into my future mixes.  Check this one out for certain, give your favorite track a like, drop some comments, and be sure to share it around so that everyone can benefit from these good tunes.

Beautiful Oblivion :: Wild Child Continues To Impress With Music Video For ‘My Town’

The Wild Child legend continues to grow.  They’re already known as compelling songwriters and live performers, and their music videos have always been high quality.  With My Town, however, it seems they have evolved into the realms of cinematic-scale presentations.  Plain and simple, this is a beautiful video for a powerful song.  The camera work, locations, colors and performances are all phenomenal.  If, for whatever reason, you’re still sleeping on Wild Child, now would be a good time to wake up and get hip.

LNS crew member and producer/remix aficionado Haris Qureshi has carved out a niche for himself of the past half decade or so as someone who can take a good track and spice it up a bit to make it something fresh and unique.  His remixes have appeared as one-off uploads and compilation fodder for years, but recently, Haris decided to do listeners a favor by compiling nearly 50 of his favorite remixes into a single collection.  The artist list is diverse, covers a wide range of hip-hop aesthetics, and most definitely puts it down for the South.  Best of all, this behemoth is a name your price download, meaning you really have no reason not to get it.  If you can’t drop a few bucks for your download, then do the next best thing and share it around.

Perpetual Motion :: Henry + the Invisibles Keeps It Moving With ‘Out Of Order’

Henry + the Invisibles has always been a champion for the DIY ethos, a keeper of the funk, and a candidate for hardest working man in the business, but one aspect that gets overlooked at times is his gift for motivational speaking.  His songs are such a complex presentation, and his mood often so upbeat and radiating, that some don’t catch all of the gems he’s dropping.  On his latest single (and video), Out of Order, Henry brings the tempo down a bit and drops manifesto-level bars on keeping your integrity and wits about you in a time full of turmoil and conflict.  And, amazingly, he drops all of this groove and knowledge in less than two minutes.  This is the kind of material that could help right the ship in these hazy days, so give this one a like, a share, and a comment, and keep supporting Henry + the Invisibles (or start supporting, if you aren’t already).
