One should never doubt the self-motivation that Kydd Jones possesses.  From the jump, Kydd set out to make a name for himself in the industry in as many ways as possible, and while some of it is for clout and respect, it’s undeniable that some of it is for the money as well.  That’s why, with the help of The Teeta, Kydd Jones has dropped yet another banger in the form of Checks, a bit of self-validation for the pair of self-motivated individuals.  The song has swagger for days, so definitely check it out, support if you dig it, and spread it around for as many people to enjoy as possible.

Manifesto Blast :: Feral The Earthworm Keeps ‘Throwies’ Going With ‘Golden Arches’

In his never-ending quest to enlighten and entertain the open-minded section of the masses, Feral the Earthworm has dropped another chapter in his ongoing series of Throwies videos.  With Golden Arches, however, Feral the Earthworm puts the didactic tactics on hold, instead opting to focus on more abstract points such as consumerism and self-respect.  As he is not looking to lay out historical or logical context for this one, and instead stand his ground on personal beliefs, the energy is amped up, and the delivery is much more urgent, giving us a glimpse back to the days when Feral the Earthworm was a raw, uncut gem of an MC still finding ways to put his ideas together into the hard-hitting content he is known for today.  Feral the Earthworm always gets props around here, so be sure to like and comment if you dig, and share it around for others to enjoy!

For the 2 – 7 people out there in the world curious about the Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice process of short film-making, I have released audio commentary tracks for REPOSSESSION and The Perpendicular.  Myself, along with guests Troy Baham Jr., Tony Berg and Steve Jones discuss several aspects of the production of both films.

Know Justice :: SCDS Takes A Stand With ‘Breakfast Of Champions’

SCDS (formerly Space Camp Death Squad) has never been afraid to take a stand and voice their minds, be it as a collective or as individual members (Doc Brown, Protextor and Secret Levels, respectively).  That’s why it’s not surprising that they’ve become the latest on a respectable list of Austin artists to stare racial and socio-economical injustices square in the eyes with their latest single and video, Breakfast of Champions.  Not only are the viewpoints on authority and their connection to standard society scathing, but they range in perspective, given the ethnic makeup and diverse backgrounds of the three crew members.  The video really brings the idea home, taking an almost obsolete model of television out into the streets and infusing it with a mixture of performance footage from SCDS and old images that, sadly, may never be timeless given the racial climate of America.  The video is a hard pill of truth to swallow, but if you’re an honest individual that can deal with the real, leave a like and a comment on the video, and spread it around for others to do the same.

Brain Scrambler :: Marrow Drops ‘The Damage Done’ Via Milled Pavement

In a mere 6-ish months, Milled Pavement Records has gone from being on the underground bubble to being a forced to be reckoned with for East Coast-based and forward-thinking artists.  With homies like Brzowski, Anthony Maintain and MC Homeless already making appearances on the roster, it was a safe assumption that anything from the collective that crossed my radar would be quality, and Marrow kept that streak going by getting me hip to his latest release, The Damage Done.  As a fan of groups like Non-Phixion and Darkleaf, this project hit me right in the feels, and the backstory given for the project makes the lyrical and musical onslaught that much more interesting.  Definitely take a moment to read the Bandcamp liner notes when (not if!) you go to check this one out, support if you can, and share it around for other heads to enjoy!

As a child of the 1980s and 1990s, I have a fond memory of music videos and the important role they played in both television programming and artist promotion/development.  MTv was a cultural landmark of massive proportions, and from my earliest memories of the channel (prior to its shift towards reality television programming), I must admit that the onslaught of music videos inspired and shaped me.  Decades later, the game may have changed in regards to what cable offers, but websites like YouTube have not only stepped in to fill the void, but it gives many artists a platform that they otherwise would not have gotten due to the big business gatekeepers.  I’ve been planning on getting my second YouTube channel going for quite a while, and now that DOOMtube is officially operational, I am proud to present the first of what will (hopefully) be a number of programs on the channel : DOOMpeerREVIEW.  If you like music videos, supporting local artists, and a slight touch of the way things used to be, don’t delay… subscribe now to be notified about new uploads, and share the channel with others so they can do the same.

Cinematic Orchestration :: Curbside Jones Continues To Rise With ‘Gyakusou Vol. 1’

The list of my hip-hop/rap peers that I respect is a vast one, but the club of my hip-hop/rap peers that truly inspire me is a very exclusive one.  One of the longest standing members of this club is the Austin-based legend Curbside Jones.  Since the day I discovered Wolves’ Clothing, every single bit of creative output from Curbside Jones has been amazing, be it music, videos, animations, clothing, photography or whatever he chooses to dip his toes into.  Gyakusou Vol. 1, the brief but powerful collaboration with Japanese producer Ballhead, is further proof of Curbside Jones‘ ability to make nothing less that concept albums.  Check the Bandcamp page for a complete breakdown on the origins and inspiration for the project, and cop it while you’re there, because it’s a bonafide banger.
